For checking out our gym. Our beginners are just as important to us as the crusty old brown and black belts. Martial arts are our jam and we love sharing information and teaching new folks. For many people dropping into the first class feels a bit intimidating. Don't worry! You're going to meet some super friendly badasses at Violet Crown Jiu Jitsu.

We offer a free trial, no hassle. Check out the schedule, find a time that works for you, sign the e-waiver and find out for yourself why so many people love Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai.

First Class Gear

Comfortable gym t-shirt and shorts
Athletic gear undergarmets
Be aware that martial arts are more contact/movement based than your traditional workout
Pockets, strings, baggier clothes tend to get caught or pulled
Water bottle
Flip Flops
Small gear bag to hold personals
Jiu Jitsu or Muay Thai Gear. If you don' t have specific gear don't worry we have loaners

Whats a class like?

Each coach has a teaching style
Generally class starts with a quick warmup
Then coach will show some techniques for you to practice with a partner
Positional sparring and/or open sparring rounds

Etiquette

No shoes or socks on the mat
Respect fellow students
Be mindful of both you and your partner's safety
Do not come to class under the influence
No bare feet in the restroom
Hygiene! - Deodorant, Keep nails short, Do not come to class smelly
Have fun :)

Violet Crown History

Violet Crown Jiu Jitsu was founded by Rudy Canales in 2020. You can usually tell where Rudy is because he's cracking jokes somewhere in the room. He's been training in combat arts for over 20 years. Rudy's combination of coaching ability, laid-back energy, and kindness really sets the tone for Violet Crown students.

Rudy is also a musician and accomplished break dancer.

You'll find we do thing a little differently here. We strive to be a peaceful, ego free place to practice martial arts. Some gyms are obsessed with hierarchy, rules, and don't things their way. We believe there are many paths to success in Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. Watch any elite level match and you'll see poetry in motion.
